Princess Mouseskin 2:
The Squeakquel
(Princess HumanSkin)
by Cruz Rendon
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young woman who was recently named the Queen of Massachusetts after working for the King disguised as a mouse. One day the Queen had her servant polish her blue, 18-carat Sri Lankan Sapphire wedding ring. While the servant did her chores, the Queen sat on her throne while her maid fed her red velvet cake dipped in glittery sugar crystals.
The Queen being too involved with her own routine never bothered to notice a small hole in the corner of the room. There, in the dark, unexposed corners of the castle, lived a separate kingdom. A kingdom of mice. King Mouse had three daughters: Dania, Diana and Nadia. (Please note how all three have the same letters in their name.)
It seemed a fine morning for King Mouse to scurry out and gather new drapes for their windows. As he walked out his castle, he ran past the Queen causing her to shriek. Her servant polishing the ring became frightened and dropped the very expensive ring. King Mouse took notice and decided to run after it and take it with him. Dania and Diana loved the ring. They both tried it on as a belt and a necklace. It was a little too tight on both. The King asked Nadia if she'd like to try it on. Nadia was busy reading Bram Stoker's Dracula when she looked over.
"No thanks," she told her father. "I can make a better one for you on my own." She went back to reading her book.
Diana and Dania fought over who should keep the ring. Diana wanted it for her belt collection. Dania wanted to use it as a necklace. The King was furious. How dare Nadia turn down something he worked so hard to bring home. The King thought her ungrateful and banished her from his kingdom. He sent Diana and Dania to bury her in the backyard of the Queen's castle. The two sisters each grabbed onto Nadia and dragged her to the backyard without being noticed by the Queen or her workers.
"Dania, Diana, you can't do this to me. We are sisters. We stick together," Nadia pleaded.
"No," replied Dania
"You heard what dad said. You have to be buried," Diana finished her sister's thought. They started digging a hole with a shovel when the magic mouse fairy appeared, scaring off Dania and Diana who had only buried Nadia halfway.
"Princess Nadia, you are destined for great things. I have come to liberate you from this hole," announced the Fairy.
"Thank you so much fairy godmother," replied Nadia. The Fairy cast her voodoo spells and Princess Nadia was out of the hole.
"Now, exbono you-twosus," the Fairy cast a spell turning Nadia into a human.
"Oh my god. What have you done?" cried Princess Nadia.
"I have turned you into a beautiful creature, go on darling. You'll find your way," squeaked the fairy and disappeared. Princess Nadia, having nowhere else to go, ended up walking back to the castle. She entered the castle through the backdoor where no security was currently in place. Everyone was attending to the Queen's order. She entered and found the chaos occurring near the Queen's throne. Once the Queen laid eyes upon Princess Nadia, the Queen stopped screaming.
"My darling, my darling. You are so beautiful. I've been wanting a little girl like you." The Queen said to her.
"No, please don't eat me. I'm leaving right now," replied Nadia, very frightened.
"Eat you? Oh no. Too many carbs. I want a daughter. Someone needs to take the throne after me. And who's a better fit than my own daughter?" The Queen motions to a nearby table. "Baltimore, get my daughter a glass of water. Pronto." Baltimore scurries off like a mouse to get Nadia a glass of water. "You'll get treated very nicely here. Think of anything in the world and you'll have it."
Days passed and Nadia was enjoying her stay with the Queen. They ate small sandwiches together, they watched and sang along to My Fair Lady together. They argued over who got to be Eliza during Wouldn't it be Loverly, their favorite musical number from the movie. Princess Nadia loved her new mom and she loved staying at the castle. The only thing missing was the 1st ever printed Dracula book, She missed the smell of books. The Queen allowed her to have anything in the world except for books. Booker were supposedly boring and they wasted time. Nadia knew better and she wanted to ask once more for a book.
"I'd really like to go to the bookstore. They do have some really interesting books, some even have pictures!" Nadia told the Queen with excitement.
"Nah. Let's watch America's Next Top Model," replied the Queen. Nadia sat and started to fall asleep. Nadia is a recurring sleep-talker. She started mumbling words about her dad and how she's going back home. This made the Queen sad and she woke Nadia from her sleep, "are you sure you want to go back home?" the Queen asked.
Suddenly a mouse ran across the floor. The Queen shrieked and her servants circled the room. No way was the mouse escaping this time.
"Dad is that you?" called Nadia.
"Nadia come home. We made a mistake. You can do whatever you want with this ring. Sell it, break it, throw it away. Anything. Just come back home," said King Mouse pulling out the ring.
"My ring! He has my ring!" yelled the Queen. King Mouse dropped the ring on the floor after a mob of servants chased after him. They ran around the room, bumping into each other. They couldn't seem to catch the mouse. During these events the Queen picked up her ring and put it back on her finger.
"Hey give that back," squeaked King Mouse.
"Shut up you dirty rat," squealed the Queen and kicks King Mouse across the room and he bounced off the wall an scurries back into his hole. King Mouse was never seen outside his kingdom after that day. It was obvious had no plan to go back and live with him either. The Queen finally gave in and bought Nadia hundreds of books. Nadia enjoyed them very much. She was finally happy. Nadia believed her father was responsible for all her well being so she left him and her sisters a piece of cheese right outside their hole. Finally Princess Nadia was at peace. She laid down in her white futon and began reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The quietness was pierced by a loud shriek of the Queen. "THERE'S A SNAKE UNDER MY BED!" In fact, there was a whole kingdom of snakes in the hallway closet. The King Snake swallowed the remaining bits of a mouse he found near the Queen's throne. Afterwards, he grabbed onto and squirmed away with the Queen's very expensive golden, 900-thread count, China silk panties and took it into the closet where he showed it to his three daughters. Two of them loved the panties and wanted to use them for either curtains or a bedsheets. The third daughter thought they were a bit smelly. This made the King Snake very angry..... and well.... we all have a clue what happened afterwards.
On the other hand, after finding out the news of her father's death, Nadia finally felt relieved she didn't have to keep leaving cheese out for her father. It started to feel like a burden. She sat in the living room alongside the Queen and yelled, "yaaaaaas Tyra. You betta wurrrrk," while watching America's Next Top Model and they all lived happily ever after.
The End.
